You still can't strangle through text.

Let me preface this by saying, I am not trying to get into an ideological debate with anyone. I am not saying one way is better than the other. I am merely expressing my own thoughts, feelings, and views. I'm sorry if I offend.

My oldest friend (as in length of time I've known them and not age), Thomas, is a crazy conservative that was born and raised and remains to this day in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. I say he's a conservative, he says he's a liberal- for Alabama standards. In which case, by Alabama standards I am as left leaning as Michael Moore. (Which I'm not I'm more of a moderate, and Michael Moore is crazy.)

I digress.

He said something to me yesterday that is still rattling around in my brain and kind of infuriating me.

He said abortion is a device created by the Progressives for the mass genocide of the African American race.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

Let me quote: "Abortion was introduced by the early Progressives. Not as a 'reproductive right' but as a way to purify the gene pool. They pushed the idea as a way to limit the growth of undesirables. Such as blacks, Hispanics,  the poor, the uneducated. Basically, the Democratic base. As of 2009, there would have been twice as many black people as there are now if abortion had not been legalized. So genocide is ok as long as it takes a few decades?"

And this all came up from our abortion debate in which he said if he had a daughter that was raped and became pregnant from that encounter he would make her carry to term because of the threat of eternal damnation.

My thoughts? Bitch be crazy. I would never encourage my hypothetical daughter to carry to term a product of rape and then raise it putting herself in a disadvantage of the rest of her life. That would ultimately be a decision my daughter would have to  make for herself. You know, having the right to choose.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get deep. I just wanted to put my frustrations out there. Needless to say, Thomas and I avoided each other for the rest of the afternoon.

  1. So, when they've done this for centuries past in back alleys in Africa with a coat hanger, at risk of death, infection, and/or mutilation, these folks have been purely Progressively thinking about, uh, population control? I've heard stranger moonshine-induced propaganda, but dude needs to do a little historical research.

  4. Your friend is just plain wrong.... and you know I wish people would spend a little more time focused on themselves rather than telling other women what they should or shouldn't do!

  5. Wow.

But as shocking as his opinions are, there are sooooo many people like that with extremist beliefs. Although the conspiracy theory mind set is kind of rare....

  6. Well, that's the first time I've heard that theory from the batshit camp.

It is just as puzzling as it is worrying that people are able to reach these conclusions.

  7. No, he's not entirely accurate.. he might be thinking of Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood, as she was (in the beginning) a fairly vocal eugenicist, but I guess someone told her it might be a good idea to shush on the whole 'exterminating minorities and poor people' angle and focus more on women's right to choose what to do with their bodies. But it wasn't invented solely to exterminate black people.. people have been voluntarily attempting to end pregnancies for centuries... probably about as long as people have been getting pregnant.
