I is for Instant Gratification

I don't like to wait for things. To say I'm impatient is probably an understatement. I can't even eat hard candy correctly because I'm done sucking on that bastard after a second and crunching it up the next. I keep hearing that if something holds value to you then it's worth waiting for. I disagree.

I'll never know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.

I know that I love hot chocolate with warm milk instead of water and I know it's better warmed in a pot on the stove than in a microwave. Yet I still use the hot water in the microwave method most of the time because I just can't be bothered to wait the few extra minutes (and yes, I'm sitting here drinking hot chocolate made with water right now. Thanks Huge Financial Corporation That Did Not Require A Bailout for providing it for me).

I'm a lot like Veruca Salt. "I want the golden goose NOOOOOWWW DADDY!"

That's definitely me. Sometimes I'm a brat. Sometimes.

I've for the most part come to accept this about myself. I'll do things the quick and easy way before I go about the more efficient better pay-off way. I try to change my ways on occasion and not go for the instant gratification and maybe hold out for the better pay-off. I even succeed from time to time, but then I always think to myself "was it really worth it?" and the answer is usually a definite no.

There is one exception. If I'm baking I'm doing it from scratch. To hell with boxed mixes- I'm serious about my treats I make and I don't wanna be the box lady.

    1. I had that same problem looking up a red velvet recipe for my bffs bday. I found a great one though over at allrecipes.com. That's a great site for from scratch baking. No judgement from me!

  3. Stopping by from A to Z...

I felt similarly about cookie mixes until recently - I was fine with a box mix for brownies or cake, but cookies! No, sacreligous! I've let that go as I've progressed to cooking over baking, personally.

  4. I don't think being impatient is a bad thing. I was born early, and have been rushing things ever since.

I found your blog on the A to Z list. It's nice to meet you.
